On this day in 1994, Guiding Light star, Michael Zaslow (Roger Thorpe), wins his one and only Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Zaslow was always highly regarded by critics and fans as one of the best actors on daytime television.The same Emmys telecast rewarded multiple performers from One Life to Live for their work in the rape storyline involving Todd Manning and Marty Saybrook. Hillary B. Smith (Nora Gannon), Susan Haskell (Marty Saybrook) and Roger Howarth (Todd Manning) all received Daytime Emmy Awards. After attempts were made to romantically pair Todd with his victim, Marty, Howarth quit the show.
In 2004 - Marlena and Alice were found alive on the island of Melaswen (that's 'new Salem' spelled backwards) on Days of our Lives. This would be the beginning of the end of its controversial Salem Stalker storyline, where Marlena (Deidre Hall) was killing the residents of Salem, but all was not what it seemed. In a twist, everyone turned out to be alive and well on a tropical island that had been designed to look exactly like Salem. Too much to explain - it was crazy.
