On this day in 1980, Marlena and Don (Deidre Hall and Jed Allan) lost their infant son, D.J., on Days of our Lives. The baby died of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) shortly after birth. Don blamed Marlena for his death and the pair would eventually separate and divorce.
In 1993 - Another World star, Linda Dano (Felicia Gallant), won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She soap-hopped for many years after AW went off the air. In recent years, she starred in the 2021 Hallmark movie production, A Little Daytime Drama, with co-stars, Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa, DAYS) and Ryan Paevey (ex-Nathan, GH).
Guiding Light made a surprising decision to kill the character of Maureen, based on lackluster responses to the character during a focus group session. Ellen Parker's performance during her character's death scenes earned her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series on this day in 1993. Take that focus group! The character's death, and Parker's departure from the show were both controversial and unpopular.
