On this day in 1974, the first Daytime Emmy Awards was broadcast from the Channel Gardens at Rockefeller Center in New York. This would be the first separate awards show made just for daytime programming. Winners included Elizabeth Hubbard (Best Actress for the role of Althea Davis on The Doctors) and her show, The Doctors (Outstanding Drama Series).
In 2004 - Actor Gerald Anthony committed suicide at the age of 52. Anthony is best known for his portrayal of Marco Dane on the ABC soap opera, One Life to Live. He played the role for over a decade and was briefly married (1981-1983) to his OLTL co-star, Brynn Thayer (Jenny Wolek). He made daytime television history by becoming the first actor to win a Daytime Emmy Award for a crossover character in 1993, playing Marco Dane on General Hospital.
